First Year Experience

Brenagh Sanford, M.Ed., assistant director

First Year Experience (FYE) offers programs and academic outreach to first-year students at key times during the first year of studies at UP. The Anchor Seminar, led by faculty and upper-class students introduces the Core Curriculum, addresses academic life at the university, and the values of a liberal arts education while facilitating a positive transition into UP’s holistic community. In coordination with the academic and student affairs divisions, FYE collaborates in planning for first-year student registration and orientation to campus. FYE also conducts intentionally timed outreach and provides referrals to campus resources assisting first-year students to resolve issues with academic and career planning, financial aid, registration, and social adjustment. Additionally, FYE offers one on one academic coaching in the spring semester for first-year students.

The First Year Experience is located within the SARC, Buckley Center 101. For more information, contact FYE at firstyear@up.edu, (503) 943-7895, or visit the FYE webpage at www.up.edu/sarc/services/your-first-year.
