Care Team - Academic Support

Andy Poundstone, associate director for academic support

The University of Portland is committed to providing a personal education for each of our students, and the Care Team program is a key part of this vision. When parents, faculty, or staff members are concerned about the physical, emotional, academic or personal health of a UP student, the Care Team members can reach out, assess the situation, offer support, and provide referrals to the breadth of resources on campus.

The academic division of the Care Team is alerted to academic concerns (usually by a faculty member making a Care Team Referral) when a student has excessive or extended class absences, has shown a lack of communication or engagement, is struggling in specific courses, or is not turning in assignments. The Academic Care Team offers guidance to students struggling in areas such as study skills or time management, and it offers support to students with concerns about academic warnings, midterm grades, registration.

Students with academic or other concerns can also submit a Care Team Self-Referral or send requests and inquiries to careteam@up.edu. Care Team Academic Support is located in the SARC, Buckley Center 101.
