Degree Outcomes

The Master of Science in Operations and Technology Management (M.S.O.T.M.) program creates leaders who can manage the complexities of modern enterprises by achieving competitive advantage through the use of operations and technology. The program is STEM designated, and the curriculum is rigorous and quantitative in operations and technology management and integrates theories and applications from business analytics, decision modeling, networking & telecommunications, process modeling, project and quality management, supply chain management, and systems analysis & design. 

Learning Goals and Objectives for Master of Science in Operations and Technology Management Graduates

Students who successfully complete all requirements for a MSOTM will achieve the following goals and outcomes.

  1. Student will have a core of OTM knowledge:
    1. Students will develop solutions to complex business problems using knowledge from operations and information technology management.
  2. Student will have analytical research skills:
    1. Students will prescribe tactics to improve the performance of organizational operations.
  3. Students will have communication skills:
    1. Students will compose recommendations to aid business problem solving.
  4. Students will be ethically and socially responsible:
    1. Students will assess ethical implications of managerial decisions.
    2. Students will identify societal impact of managerial decisions.

Admission Requirements

  1. Statement of Goals
  2. Current resume
  3. Two recommendation letters
  4. Official Transcripts (from all previously attended academic institutions)
  5. A bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Portland
  6. International Applicants: All foreign transcripts will be evaluated by International Student Services prior to an admission decision
  7. Optional: Official GMAT (minimum score of 55th percentile in quantitative and 50th percentile in verbal) or GRE (minimum score equivalent to GMAT score)
  8. International Applicants: an official score from the TOEFL (minimum score of 88), IELTS (minimum score of 7.0), or Duolingo (minimum score of 110) exam is required.
  9. Undergraduate G.P.A of 3.2 (on a scale of 4.0)
  10. International Applicants: Proof of financial support will be required to attend the University of Portland, but not required for application review

4+1 Program & Admission Requirements

  1. Open to University of Portland juniors or seniors who complete the above application requirements.
  2. Please note, a conditional admission of acceptance is given until a degree awarding transcript with G.P.A. verification is submitted to the Graduate School.

MSOTM Degree Requirements

For M.S.O.T.M. candidates who do not have an academic or professional OTM background, BUS 505 Introduction to OTM, will be required. M.S.O.T.M. students who do not have a business background will be required to successfully complete two online Harvard tutorials: Finance and Financial Accounting.

Students will complete 30 credit hours of specialized coursework in operations and technology management including four common courses (12 credit hours); and six courses in a specific track (18 credit hours). Students interested in focusing on a specific field can choose a track in one of the following areas: operations and technology management, business analytics, operations and supply chain management, or information technology management. By choosing a track, students will be required to take six courses in one of the tracks.
